Parkland Community


This unique city was incorporated in 1963 and is predominantly an upscale bedroom community with a small portion zoned for commercial and industrial development. The current population of Parkland is approximately 18,000 on 8.5 square miles. Long-term projections call for an eventual population of approximately 30,000 residents, although city leaders have taken a slow-growth, well-planned approach to expansion in order to maintain Parkland’s small town flavor.


Parkland Culture


The state of the art Parkland Library is located at the Municipal Complex at 6620 University Drive. Parkland residents are encouraged to contact (954) 757-4200 to obtain library cards and Parkland Homeowners Stickers ($ 5.00 each), and to register for its programs and events. Check the City’s website for programs and events. The hours of operation are 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday-Thursday and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday and Saturday.


Parkland Education


The state of Florida offers top-rated public schools, a selection of high-quality private schools, and higher education institutions. Parkland children attend the following public schools: Riverglades and Park Trails Elementary Schools (k-5); Westglades Middle School (6-8); and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (9-12).


Parkland History


Parkland is a tranquil city nestled in a serene, wooded environment in Northwest Broward County, Florida. This unique city was incorporated in 1963. While its features are predominantly residential, small portions are zoned for commercial and industrial development. Currently, the population is approximately 25,000 and long term projections anticipate the eventual population of approximately 35,000. City leaders are using a conservative approach to growth in order to maintain a small town park-like flavor.

Parkland Lifestyle


Southeast Florida,from warm, salty, emerald green waters and white sand beaches to high-rise condominiums, hotels and trendy clubs along the Atlantic Ocean with a dash of The Everglades, South Florida is an area of incredible natural beauty and has something for everyone. The Gold Coast of South Florida stretches over 120 miles along the Atlantic Ocean with over 5,150 square miles of land in three counties: Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade. Known as the Venice of America, Fort Lauderdale has more than 300 miles of Intracoastal waterways and numerous canals permitting residents to anchor boats in their backyards with the unspoiled splendor of the Everglades just a few miles inland. With the average daily temperature of 77 degrees in the winter and 89 degrees in the summer, this is a sports enthusiast"s paradise. Outdoor activities are endless with hundreds of parks, golf courses, tennis courts and beaches. Spectators enjoy all of the major league sporting team action in the area including the Miami Heat Basketball, Miami Dolphins Football, Florida Panthers Hockey and Florida Marlins Baseball. Boredom will not be the case for a South Florida sports fan.


Parkland Nature


The City of Parkland consists of 8.5 miles of multipurpose trails, bike paths & sidewalks; a 5.5-acre park with sports field lighting and a tot lot; a 50 acre park with sports field lighting and other amenities; a 7.5 acre Equestrian Center, the 20 acre Doris Davis Forman Wilderness Preserve, and the citizen constructed 7 acre Liberty Park containing numerous play areas representing American patriotic themes. Additionally, the first and second phase of the ultimately 80 acre Pine Trails Park are completed, and its amenities consist of a Community Center and an Amphitheater, 3 pavilions, restrooms, 4 tee ball fields, and a fishing pier and boardwalk. The YMCA hosts and manages a variety of programs in the Community Center located at 10559 Trails End. For YMCA programs information, contact the YMCA at (954) 384-9622.


Parkland Recreation


Parkland Parks & Recreation offices are located within Pine Trails Park at 10561 Trails End. Summer Camp, Winter Break, Year Round, and Senior Programs information and applications are available by calling (954) 757-2129 or (954) 757-4142 or by visiting the Parks and Recreation Website. Pavilion registrations are available to Parkland residents only, and availability inquiries and reservations must be made by contacting the Parks & Recreation Administrative Assistant at (954) 757-4105. Field facilities reservations must be made by contacting the Parks and Recreation Director at (954) 757-4126. For information on concerts, shows, farmers’ market, and other city related city events, contact special events coordinator at (954) 757-4120 or by visiting the Parks and Recreation website.

Broward County offers public transportation, the Ft.Lauderdale International Airport and AmTrak Train Service
